Quick Previews: Southwestern Athletic Conference

Our conference quick previews are just quick predictions for the all-conference teams and the conference standings. If you came here looking for a deep analysis on each team, you’ve came to the wrong place. We’re too lazy to do that 🙂

The last 4 years, the SWAC’s regular season champion has either been Texas Southern or Southern, but there’s a chance that could change this season. What we know for sure is that the SWAC will have a very intriguing three-way race for supremacy in the league this season. Between Texas Southern, Southern and Jackson State, the SWAC title race will be one to watch come February. Texas Southern went 16-2 that last two seasons in conference play, but returns just one starter from last season. Luckily, that starter is Derrick Griffin, who won honors for SWAC Newcomer, Player and Defender of the year. Jackson State and Southern got 3rd and 4th in the conference respectively. The Tigers return 4 starters from last year while Southern returns 3. So don’t you dare go thinking that just because this conference was second to last in RPI last season, it won’t be an exciting and intense year.
