Quick Previews: Colonial Athletic Association

Our conference quick previews are just quick predictions for the all-conference teams and the conference standings. If you came here looking for a deep analysis on each team, you’ve came to the wrong place. We’re too lazy to do that 🙂

If you look up the phrase “Quick turnaround” on the Internet, you should find a picture of Kevin Keatts. When he took over UNC Wilmington after the 2013-2014 season, the Seahawks had just finished last in the CAA. In year 2, they won the conference title and gave Duke a run for their money for the conference championship. Keatts has 4 of his starters from last year back, making them the easy favorites in the Colonial and one of the best mid-majors in the nation. After them, there’s isn’t a clear cut top challenger to the Seahawks. Hofstra, who were co-champions in the regular season with UNCW, returns just 2 starters. One of those starters, though, Rokas Gustys, who averaged 13.5 PPG and 13.0 RPG!! I’ll take him on my fantasy team, thank you very much. Then you have the three teams that tied for third in the conference last season: James Madison, Towson and William & Mary, who return 4, 3 and 3 starters respectively. A dark horse in the league is Charleston, who returns basically everyone from last year’s team that went 8-10 in conference play. It will be fun to see how spots 2 through 10 play out in the league, but let’s face it: This is UNC Wilmington’s conference to lose and we’d be stunned if they did indeed lose it.
